Welcome to the frst Summer in the
South holiday guide, proudly brought to
you by the publishers of the Fiordland
This publication has been compiled
by Southlanders for Southlanders and
our guests. It’s designed to be referred to
time and again as a directory for what’s
on, where you can go, what you can do,
where you can fnd it and who’s available
during the summer holiday period.
Key to this publication is the
extensive calendar of events that
we’ve pulled together. At this point we
feel obliged to add the disclaimer that
although every care (and a great deal of
time!) has been taken to ensure the
accuracy, completeness and reliability
of the information provided in this
calendar, there is bound to be the
occasional thing that we have got wrong,
overlooked or lacked detail for.
It’s also important to note that
information contained may be subject to
change without notice.
Conscious of our own fallibilities, we
have endeavoured, wherever possible,
to include contact
details or website
addresses for the
individual events so
that you may make
your own inquiries
should you wish.
Advocate is a multi
and operated by husband and wife team
David Pickett and Kirsty Macnicol.
Launched in January 2009, we’re
based in Te Anau and
distribute around 10,000 copies of our
community newspaper every week to
Fiordland, northern, western and central
Southland as well as strategic drop-off
points in other places as far afeld as
Invercargill, Waikawa, Queenstown and

EVENT DIARY KEY
Because Summer in the South
contains material covering such a large
geographical area, we’ve made it easy
to fnd what you’re looking for by colour
coding both our sections within the guide
and the events diary itself.
The publication is presented in
11 sections, identifed by a coloured tab
in the top centre of each page:
Activities & Attractions Pages 14-21
Health & Beauty
Food & Beverage
Trade & Services
These sections are fully indexed on
pages 54 and 55.
The events diary is spread over
many pages throughout the publication.
Events are presented in date order with
different colours identifying the general
geographical location. The key at right
explains the colour coding while the date
index is below..
Many of our advertisers are offering
great deals and exclusive discounts or
upgrades on their goods and services so
be sure to check them out before
booking trips and accommodation.
